The WCLA was established to nurture teaching and learning in the Faculty. It focuses on developing the learning associated with a shift towards new teaching pedagogy for our staff. The center steers the Faculty through major pedagogical changes, including the incorporation of information technology in teaching and learning. The WCLA is the first point of call for teaching development needs for FBE staff and provides customized solutions when needed. It was the first embedded teaching and learning support center in a Business Faculty in Australia and has become the model for similar units in other universities in Australia and worldwide.

The WCLA has a strong research culture. Academic staff at the Center have published in key education journals. WCLA works to assist staff with all aspects of teaching including curriculum design, development and review, pedagogy, teaching skills, assessment practices and evaluation, assurance of learning and the preparation of teaching portfolios for promotion purposes. The Center also works closely with units and centers across the university to ensure it is up to date with developments in the university and delivery of innovative programs in higher education.

About the Role

The Learning and Teaching Specialist/Senior Lecturer will work closely with the teaching staff of the faculty, including academics, sessional and tutoring staff. The incumbent will be expected to develop and deliver a suite of academic development activities focusing on contemporary issues in higher education, particularly online learning. The incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain a profile in the scholarship of learning and teaching in areas which are aligned to the learning and teaching strategic directions of the FBE. Appointees will also contribute to the collegial and intellectual life of the WCLA. Appointees at the senior level will have an excellent track record in leadership, research, teaching, industry engagement, and mentoring of junior colleagues. The role comes at a time when the faculty is highly engaged in innovations and flexibility for student learning experiences.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Actively engage in the development of initiatives which promote the adoption of learning technologies embedded in the curriculum as guided by the university’s FlexAP strategy.
  • Monitor, identify and promote engaging and effective learning approaches, taking advantage of educational technologies to support learning.
  • Contribute to the design, administration, evaluation and reporting of WCLA activities & teaching support programs.

About You

You will hold a doctoral degree, either in higher education or a business-related discipline. To be suitable for the Learning and Teaching Specialist role (Level B) you will have a strong record of effective lecturing and tutoring in higher education, as well as experience in designing and delivering effective professional development workshops, seminars, and other teaching and learning support for teaching staff in higher education. to be suitable for the Senior Lecturer role (Level C) you will have demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in academic staff development, along with experience in the delivery and evaluation of teaching and learning improvement programs.
