Last week, Midland-Odessa Symphony & Chorale Music Director and Conductor Gary Lewis hosted at Legacy High School to help orchestra students tune-up before their spring concert.

MOSC held the clinic as part of its continued educational outreach efforts.

Lewis worked with symphony and chamber ensembles on pieces from Beethoven and Shostakovich.

“I’m very impressed by how talented these young musicians are,” Lewis said. “The LHS orchestra is a real beacon for other music programs in the state. … I’m proud of Beau and all the great music educators in this community.”

MOSC is one of the largest professional performing arts organizations in West Texas. Its mission is to enrich the lives of West Texans through professional music performances and music education programs.

“Clinics like the one we had (Friday) are a huge benefit to students because they get to tap into the expertise of professional musicians and learn different perspectives on the music we’ve been teaching,” said Beau Garza. “Gary teaches students in the exact same way he teaches adults.”

The concert is scheduled for 6:45 pm May 12 at the LHS auditorium.
