Patriot League Announces Softball Players of the Week (9/5/22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Holy Cross earned two of this week’s softball honors when the League announced the laurels on Monday. Lehigh collected one weekly award.

Holy Cross sophomore Megan Yurchick was named Patriot League Softball Player of the Week while teammate senior Kelly Nelson earned pitcher of the week for the second time this season.

Lehigh freshman Rory Dudley received her third rookie of the week nod for the season.

Boston University junior Allison Boaz and sophomore Lauren Keleher, Colgate junior pitcher Bailey Misken, and Lehigh seniors Jaelynn Chesson and Gabriella Nori received honorable mention honors.

Megan Yurchick, Holy Cross, So., P, Clermont, Fla./East Ridge
* Yurchick appeared in all three games for the Crusaders help Holy Cross to a sweep of Lafayette. She hit .600 with a double and three RBI while going 1-0 in the circle with a 0.00 ERA, a .148 opposing batting average, and four strikeouts.
* During game two Saturday, Yurchick went 3-for-3 with an RBI at the dish while hurling 6.1 scoreless innings picking up the win in the circle and stretching her scoreless streak to 15.2 innings.
* On Sunday, Yurchick recorded a two-run double to complete the run-rule win in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kelly Nelson, Holy Cross, Sr., P, Norton, Mass./Norton
* Nelson led the Crusaders to a series sweep of Lafayette while making three appearances including two starts in the circle.
* Nelson accumulated a 2-0 record, a 1.02 ERA, 19 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, and a save.
* On Senior Day Saturday, Nelson struck out 10 batters in her start, the eighth time this season she totaled double-digit K’s. She came on to relieve Megan Yurchick in game two and pitched a perfect 0.2 innings for her third save of the year.
* During Sunday, Nelson earned her 14th win of the season and became the first Crusader and fifth player in league history to a mass 600 strikeouts.

Rory Dudley, Lehigh, Fr., C/IF, Irvine, Calif./Irvine
* Dudley hit a three-run home run in the second inning, the only runs in Lehigh’s 3-0 win at Boston in game two on Saturday.
* The win snapped BU’s 27-game winning streak (longest in the nation at the time), a 33-game Patriot League winning streak and a 25-home game winning streak.

Allison Boaz, Boston University, Jr., P, San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo
* Boaz pitched a complete-game shutout in her only appearance against Lehigh to clinch BU’s fourth-straight Patriot League regular-season title. The junior tallied seven strikeouts against one walk and five hits, allowing just one extra-base hit.

Lauren Keleher, Boston University, So., OF, Abington, Mass./Abington
* Keleher batted .500 and had a pair of doubles and three runs scored in the weekend series against Lehigh.

Bailey Misken, Colgate, Jr., P, Murrieta, Calif./West Springfield High School
* The junior pitched all nine innings while striking out seven in Colgate’s eventual 2-1 victory over the Black Knights on Sunday.

Jaelynn Chesson, Lehigh, Sr., OF, Franklin, Tenn./Independence
* Chesson went 2-for-3 in Sunday’s series and regular-season finale at BU, tying a career-high with 5 RBIs. Lehigh became the first league team to win a series from Boston U. since the Mountain Hawks swept the Terriers in 2017.

Gabriella Nori, Lehigh, Sr., P, Weston Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas
* Nori recorded a six-hit shutout in game two on Saturday at Boston, to help snap BU’s 27-game winning streak (longest in the nation at the time).
