Patriot League Baseball Players of the Week Announced (5/4/22)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Army West Point junior first baseman Ross Friedrick and Lafayette junior RHP Jake Bloss received Patriot League Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, when the League office announced honors on Tuesday. Bucknell freshman first baseman Tyler Dunn earned rookie of the week.

Friedrick, the 2021 Patriot League Baseball Championship MVP, earned player of the week honors after batting .600 (9-for-15) with seven RBIs to help Army West Point sweep a four-game series from Holy Cross.

Lafayette Jr. RHP Jake Bloss picked up Patriot League Baseball Pitcher of the Week honors after striking out a League season-high 15 batters through 8.0 innings in a win against Bucknell on Saturday.

Bucknell freshman first baseman Tyler Dunn was named Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Week after driving in five runs and batting .389 (7-for-18) to help the Bison go 3-2 last week.

Army West Point sophomore LHP Connelly Early, Bucknell sophomore third baseman Jacob Corson and junior RHP Will Greer, Lafayette sophomore outfielder Justin Grech, Lehigh senior infielder Joe Gorla, Navy sophomore Nolan Jorgenson and junior outfielder Colin Smith received honorable mentions for their performances last week.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ross Friedrick, Army West Point, Jr., 1B, Alpharetta, Ga./Cambridge

*Friedrick batted .600 (9-for-15) while slugging 1.133 and reaching base at a .625 clip to help Army West Point sweep a four-game series against Holy Cross.
*The junior first baseman drove in seven runs and scored six while hitting two home runs and doubling twice.
*Friedrick combined to go 5-for-8 with six RBIs to help the Black Knights sweep Saturday’s doubleheader against the Crusaders.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jake Bloss, Lafayette, Jr., RHP, Greensboro, NC/The Early College at Guilford

*Bloss threw 8.0 innings, scattering four hits and allowing one unearned run while striking out a career-high 15 and walking one to earn a win in Lafayette’s 3-1 victory over Bucknell on Saturday.
*The junior right-hander’s 15 strikeouts against the Bison is a Patriot League season-high.
*He is fourth in the Patriot League in strikeouts this season with 33 through 26.2 innings pitched.

PATRIOT LEAGUE BASEBALL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Tyler Dunn, Bucknell, Fr., 1B, Boiling Springs, Pa./Cumberland Valley

*Dunn batted .389 (7-for-18) with five RBIs to help Bucknell post a 3-2 last week, splitting their series with Lafayette and Lehigh.
*The freshman first baseman drove in two runs in Bucknell’s 6-1 victory against the Leopards on Saturday.
*He went 6-for-8 with two RBIs and a triple to help the Bison split Sunday’s doubleheader against Lehigh.

Honorable Mentions
Connelly Early, Army West Point, So., LHP, Midlothian, Va./James River

*Early tossed 6.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball to earn a win in Army West Point’s 7-0 win against Holy Cross on Saturday. He struck out five and walked five for his second win of the season.

Jacob Corson, Bucknell, So., 3B, Muncy, Pa./Hughesville

*Corson hit .474 (9-for-19) with one home run and nine RBIs to help Bucknell go 3-2 last week, including splitting series’ with Lafayette and Lehigh. He slugged .737 and reached base at a .565 clip.

Will Greer, Bucknell, Jr., RHP, Cohasset, Mass./Roxbury Latin
*Greer allowed one run on nine hits through 7.1 innings to earn a win against Lafayette on Saturday. He struck out three.

Justin Grech, Lafayette, So., OF, Southlake, Texas/Carroll

*Grech batted .444 (8-for-18) with four runs scored to help the Leopards win three of five games. He posted three multi-hit games, including going 2-for-3 with a decisive run in Monday’s 3-2 win over Navy.

Joe Gorla, Lehigh, Sr., IF, Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley

*Gorla batted .538 (7-for-13) while slugging 1,000 and posting a .625 on-base percentage while scoring five runs and driving in four to help the Mountain Hawks split a pair of doubleheaders. Gorla went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs in Lehigh’s 10-4 win vs. Navy on Saturday.

Nolan Jorgenson, Navy, So., RHP, Eastvale, Calif./Ontario Christian

*Jorgenson tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless, hitless relief in appearances against Lehigh and Lafayette. He held the Mountain Hawks scoreless through 1.2 innings in a win on Saturday before tossing 2.0 perfect innings against the Leopards.

Colin Smith, Navy, Jr., OF, Wilmington, Del./Delaware Military Academy

*Smith batted .462 (6-for-13) with two runs and two RBIs in five games. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks to lead Navy to a 5-2 win over the Leopards in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader.
