Senior Lecturer in HRM, OB and Work Psychology

Aston Business School
Location: Aston University Main Campus
Salary: £51,799 to £60,022 per annum
Grade: Grade 10
Reference: R220322

Aston Business School is a Triple Accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and one of the leading Universities in the UK for academic research (in the 2021 REF almost four-fifths of research is either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’) , excellent teaching (awarded a Gold rating in the 2016/17 TEF) and business engagement. We are only one of three UK institutions with the Small Business Charter Gold Award. In 2020 we were the Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. We are again shortlisted for the University of the Year in 2021-22. The University actively supports and finances academic and entrepreneurial spin-offs.

The Work and Organization Department hosts three main clusters – HRM, Organizational Behaviour/Work Psychology and Social Responsibility and Sustainability. We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated individual, either focused on HRM or OB/Work Psychology. Though you will contribute to the department’s teaching and enterprise activities, we welcome applications from those who will increase the research capacity of the department, especially in our two themes.

The Department is developing two themes to cohere our activities: 1) healthy work and workplaces, and 2) responsible and sustainable transformation. One of the themes will develop into a center with its own resources to sustain itself and grow. We are keen to discuss how your new ideas will strengthen our research profile in these themes.

To support you, there is a thriving research culture in the department, which has a strong reputation for being rigorous and relevant. Colleagues have impressive publication records, are involved in the editing of leading journals, and regularly win competitive grants. We support participation in international conferences and supervision of research students via the Dean’s scholarships.

You should possess a good first degree and a doctorate in a relevant discipline. For Senior Lecturer, you should have an established research profile, including evidence of a growing body of internationally excellent publications in either HRM or OB/Work Psychology-related journals, as well as a developing international network. You must have experience in securing and leading substantial funding from different sources which deliver impact, mentoring junior faculty and undertaking effectively doctoral research supervision. You should have an effective and innovative teaching practice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and at least Fellowship of the HEA (or equivalent). Chartered membership of the CIPD/BPS, industry experience and possession of entrepreneurial skills are highly desirable. For OB/Work Psychologists, being a Chartered Occupational Psychologist is especially welcome, or a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) as a minimum.

The post-holders will report to the Head of Department and the Head of School.

For informal discussions relating to this post, please contact the Head of Department, Professor Michael Butler. E-mail Michael (mjrbutler@aston.ac.uk) or Ravinder Kalsi (rkkalsi@aston.ac.uk) to arrange a discussion.

Closing date: 23.59 hours BST on Friday 17 June 2022.

Interview date: Wednesday 6 July 2022.
