Sheriff’s department offering ORV and boater safety classes

The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Department will be offering boater safety classes and ORV safety classes the first and second weekend of May, free of charge to local residents.

Both classes will be at the Cheboygan County Commissioners’ meeting room, on the lower level of the Cheboygan County Building. Students for both classes will need to use the north entrance of the building, bring their own lunches, and will need to attend the class for the entire time.

“The ORV safety class will be from 9 am until 4 pm on Saturday, May 7,” said Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont.

The minimum age to attend this class is 12 years old. Students are also asked to bring their own pens or pencils.

Anyone who plans to operate an off road vehicle (ORV), who is 16 years old or younger, who wants to be riding on public or private land is required to attend and pass an approved ORV safety course.
