SPS candidates raised at least $131,465 in April school board race

Four of the five Springfield school board candidates filed quarterly disclosure reports by the Friday deadline, offering more detail about the donations and spending from the final week of the 2022 campaign.

Collectively, the four reported an additional $7,985 in contributions since the last round of reports were submitted eight days prior to the election.

Steve Makoski and Kelly Byrne won seats on the seven-member governing board and were sworn in April 12.

Three other candidates — Chad Courtney, Charles Taylor and Brandi Van Antwerp — received fewer votes.

In the latest reporting period, Makoski raised the most with $5,811; he was followed by Courtney with $1,100; Taylor with $791; and Van Antwerp with $283.

Byrne’s campaign filed a statement of limited activity instead of a full report, a move that is allowed if a campaign received less than $500, spent less than $500 or did not have a single contribution over $300 in the final eight days before the election.
