Wright Tech students at Stamford opt to invest in school-grown fruits, veggies

STAMFORD — The results are in: Fruits and vegetables have beat out puppets for a $20,000 grant for JM Wright Technical School.

A proposal to build a garden and use fruits and vegetables from it to make smoothies and drinks for students at Wright Tech was selected by state officials to receive the grant as part of a statewide competition dubbed “Voice4Change.”

The idea behind the challenge was to give students the power to decide how to implement a certain percentage of relief funds — about $1.5 million — in recognition that kids bore much of the burden of the pandemic.
